Organizers tweak Times Colonist 10K — and there are medals for all
The Victoria International Running Society, owner of the Times Colonist 10K, announced Wednesday it has changed its name to RunSport.
The 10K will now be named the Times Colonist 10K powered by RunSport. The 29th annual race is April 29.
“We are excited to transition to RunSport. We believe that RunSport reflects our enthusiasm and passion for our community and our sport and allows us to be more accessible to the public,” said Chris Siver, president of RunSport, in a statement.
Meanwhile, the 2018 and 2019 TC10K races will serve as the B.C. 10K road championship races.
The 2018 race will also see the introduction of technical race shirts for all 10K participants and each finisher of the 10K will receive their own custom finishers medal.
Six-time women’s champion Lucy Smith will act as Race Ambassador. Smith will be establishing a new training program for the RunSport training clinics for runners and walkers, visiting elementary schools as part of the Island Farms School Challenge and representing the race at community functions.
In addition to previous clinic locations, clinics have been added at Naden Athletic Centre, Cook Street Village Activity Centre and the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence.
RunSport, in conjunction with PISE, will also be hosting an adaptive clinic for participants and their families.
Thrifty Foods is again food sponsor and sponsor for the Thrifty Foods Family Run. The Family Run entry fee has been reduced to make the event more affordable for families and encourage participation. All Family Run participants will receive custom finisher medals.
“It is exciting to be able to introduce changes that will improve the event and hopefully removes barriers, both accessibility and financial barriers, to allow more of the community to participate on race day,” said Joe Dixon, executive director for RunSport, and race manager for the TC10K.
