Warm up to comfort and big energy bill savings with Rinnai Direct Vent Wall Furnaces

Find out why homeowners from Vancouver Island to Whistler are making the switch

-

The 2018 winter forecast for Whistler-Blackcomb is for above average snowfall. That means epic skiing conditions for skiers and snowboarders, but if you own an older, less energy-efficient cabin that could also mean epic heating bills.

Willi Disler isn’t worried. His 50-yearold ski cabin will be warm and cozy all season long – and he’s going to be paying less for heating than ever before.

Disler recently installed two Rinnai EnergySaver® Direct Vent Wall Furnaces in his 1,200-square-foot ski cabin.

Rinnai’s innovative, fully modulating, direct-vent wall furnaces deliver smart, energy-efficient warm air to your home or cabin. The 7-stage modulating gas valve allows Rinnai wall furnaces to adjust to a room’s heating needs, providing comfortable consistent heat. The units are designed to accurately monitor room temperature only two inches off the floor, and are capable of detecting temperature changes as little as half of a degree.

Disler has quickly warmed up to the idea of a cozy cabin and big heating cost savings thanks to his Rinnai wall furnaces.

“The hydro bills for our ski cabin at Whistler were just enormous, $450-$500 bucks a month just for electricity,” Disler explained.

Plus, the electrical baseboards in the cabin weren’t providing an optimal heating solution for his needs. “It takes forever to heat up. I figured there had to be a better way.”

When a new home was built across the street from his cabin, Disler had the opportunity to install Fortis natural gas service, which meant he could now search for an alternative heating system.

“I figured now I’ve got to convert [my heating system].”

From hard-to-heat areas such as garages and basements to entire homes, Rinnai wall furnaces are specifically designed to deliver consistent comfort and warmth and energy efficiency using natural gas. Rob Peters, a gas services engineer who works for Rinnai, says there’s no other home heating solution like it on the market.

“Running cost, ease of installation, ease of operation, its comfort, its warmth; it’s affordable heat – you’re looking at something that’s three cents a kilowatt instead of 12 cents a kilowatt,” he says. “If you turn on your electric baseboard it costs 75 per cent more and takes 10 times as a long to heat the home. I spoke to a customer (Willi) yesterday in Whistler who says his home warms up now in 10 minutes instead of six hours.”

Of course, Rinnai wall furnaces aren’t just for ski cabins. For instance, awardwinning Vancouver Island developer the Limona Group – focused on “creating architecturally innovative and environmentally neighbourhoods” – has its new sold-out Summerstone detached single-family home project heated by Rinnai. As Limona, states: “State of the art Rinnai On Demand Hot Water system means that cold showers are a thing of the past, but we don’t stop there! We’ve also included the new Rinnai Direct Vent Wall Furnace. This gas fired ductless furnace is ultra-efficient and expected to contribute to a 50% savings on your overall utility costs!”

The major benefits of Rinnai wall furnaces, explained Peters, are:

• Consistent, even heating: Unique technology monitors room temperature, adjusting within seconds to maintain the pre-set temperature

• Reduced cold spots: A variable speed blower circulates warm air evenly throughout the room, for consistent warmth – even in corners

• Efficient technology that saves energy and money: Rinnai technology uses only the exact amount of gas needed, optimizing energy efficiency

• Complement existing heating: Rinnai EnergySaver® Direct Vent Wall Furnaces come in multiple sizes and can be used supplement existing heating systems

• Features to ensure reliable performance: Rinnai’s reliable, low-maintenance products feature a durable stainless-steel heat exchanger and the assurance of proven engineering

• Fast installation: No ductwork means

easier installation The home heating cost savings alone are reason enough to make the switch. Rinnai’s innovative technology uses only the exact amount of gas needed, which optimizes energy efficiency.

“It’s very simple to change from electric baseboard heat to a natural gas unit. When you are connected to natural gas you can enjoy year-round savings. If you are using an electric baseboard you are going to get a bill of anywhere between $800 and $1,000 per month for heating. With this, you could be as low as $60 to $100,” says Peters.

A user-friendly control panel allows the homeowner to choose a set temperature during the day using a programmable timer.

Rinnai wall furnaces vent directly through an exterior wall, which makes installation super easy. Rinnai’s wall furnaces only require a three-inch wall terminal hole for flue venting, and a selection of custom vent kits are available to fit nearly any application.

Recently, as the snow began to fall in Whistler, Disler – who has been in the electrical business for 50 years and knows a thing or two about home heating systems – had his two units installed.

“The product is absolutely first class. Very easy to install. We fired it up this Tuesday night. Immediately you could tell the difference,” he says.

Before going to bed, he turned down the cabin temperature to 17 C and when he woke up he went downstairs and turned it up to 21 C. “Five minutes later the place was cozy. It’s absolutely an amazing heater. It works really well. The heat recovery is very fast and it shoots everywhere around the cabin. So everywhere we have really good heat. I’m very happy. This unit is also very, very quiet. It’s far better than the electric heat we had. I would never go back.”

When you are connected to natural gas, you can enjoy yearround savings. With a Rinnai Direct Vent Wall Furnace. Save hundreds of dollars every year while enjoying consistent heating throughout your home. “It’s very simple to change from electric baseboard heat to this natural gas unit.”

Designed to constantly monitor room temperature, Rinnai’s unique modulating technology can respond immediately to even the smallest temperature fluctuations.

• Constantly monitors room temperature 2” (5 cm) from the floor

• Consistently detects temperature changes of less than 1° F

• Within seconds, the Rinnai EnergySaver® Direct Vent Wall Furnace begins to gently heat the room

• Fan speed and BTU output increase as necessary to reach the preset temperature

• As the room reaches the desired temperature, the EnergySaver® Direct Vent Wall Furnace reduces fan speed and BTU output

• In case of a sudden influx of cold air, the EnergySaver ® Direct Vent Wall Furnace automatically adjusts fan speed and BTU to quickly restore warmth to the room.

• Heat is distributed evenly and heat loss is minimized since Rinnai EnergySaver® Direct Vent Wall Furnaces require no ductwork. “You can enjoy comfortable room temperatures all winter long and not have to worry about huge heating bills,” says Peters. “In fact, you can save hundreds of dollars every year while enjoying consistent heating throughout your home. Whether you just need to heat one room or your entire home, Rinnai products offer unparalleled comfort and efficiency.”
