Gates gives away book to American graduates

-

Bill Gates recently revealed his five recommended books for summertime reading. Now, he’s giving away one of those five — his favourite book of the year, so far — to this year’s college graduates.

The book is Factfulness: Ten Reasons We’re Wrong About the World — And Why Things Are Better Than You Think by Hans Rosling, with Ola Rosling and Anna Rosling Ronnlund.

All 2018 graduates, from any accredited college or university in the United States, can go to the Gates Notes website to download a complimentary copy.

Graduates must sign up or log in as a Gates Notes insider, then select their university or college from a drop-down menu in order to download the book. The download will be available for about two or three days.

Gates is doing it “to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments and potential of this year’s graduating class,” according to a statement.

Hans Rosling, a global-health lecturer who died last year, “gives you a breakthrough way of understanding basic truths about the world — how life is getting better, and where the world needs to improve,” Gates wrote in a blog post revealing his summer reading list.

The bulk of Factfulness is “devoted to 10 instincts that keep us from seeing the world factfully,” Gates wrote in a more detailed review of the book.

“With each one, he offers practical advice about how to overcome our innate biases.”
