Oak Bay’s monthly village night market starts today

The Oak Bay Village Night Market will launch a 10th season today with many popular market vendors returning with a large variety of new ones.

The market, running from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oak Bay Avenue between Monterey and Wilmot streets, offers a diverse mix of edible and artisan-made items for sampling and sales.

In addition, families can enjoy live music, pop-up theatre, roving magic and craft activities throughout the market.

Also this year, there will be a bigger mix of fresh produce, prepared foods such as jams, salsas and baked goods, as well as plants and flowers.

A variety of craft brewers, wine makers and distillers showcasing their latest creations will also be in attendance.

Local artisans will also be there with home, garden and personal items such as locally made jewellery, clothing, glass art, soaps, wood turnings, planters and more.

Music for the opening day will be supplied by Arf the Dog and the Craig Henderson Trio.

Theatre SKAM’s Pop Up Theatre returns to provide short theatre experience­s for the whole family.

The Oak Bay Library will be at the market offering informatio­n about library programs and the Summer Reading Club.

The Oak Bay Kiwanis is working with Child Find B.C. to photograph and fingerprin­t babies to teens under 18 free of charge as part of Child Find’s All About Me ID Program.

The market continues once a month through the summer, with remaining dates July 11, Aug. 8 and Sept. 12.
