Crane strikes pedes­trian over­pass in View Royal

An ex­tended crane on the back of a truck hit a cy­clist and pedes­trian over­pass on Wed­nes­day, shut­ting down Six Mile Road in View Royal.

View Royal Fire Chief Paul Hurst said the truck’s crane struck the Gal­lop­ing Goose trail over­pass near Atkins Road shortly be­fore 11:25 a.m. No in­juries oc­curred. Six Mile Road was closed un­til about 5:30 p.m.

The trail over­pass was partly closed un­til it was in­spected and de­clared safe.

The crane, part of the flat-deck truck, was used to un­load pal­lets of lum­ber.

Hurst said the truck’s fuel tank was punc­tured and hy­draulic lines on the crane were sev­ered, but no liq­uids made their way into the en­vi­ron­ment.
