Crane strikes pedestrian overpass in View Royal

-

An extended crane on the back of a truck hit a cyclist and pedestrian overpass on Wednesday, shutting down Six Mile Road in View Royal.

View Royal Fire Chief Paul Hurst said the truck’s crane struck the Galloping Goose trail overpass near Atkins Road shortly before 11:25 a.m. No injuries occurred. Six Mile Road was closed until about 5:30 p.m.

The trail overpass was partly closed until it was inspected and declared safe.

The crane, part of the flat-deck truck, was used to unload pallets of lumber.

Hurst said the truck’s fuel tank was punctured and hydraulic lines on the crane were severed, but no liquids made their way into the environment.
