Police dogs put bite on two during arrest

-

A police dog helped nab two people described as prolific offenders in Nanaimo. Both received minor injuries from dog bites during the arrest.

On Saturday, Nanaimo RCMP received a report about two people stealing items from vehicles near the Duke Point ferry terminal, said spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien.

A witness got a description of the vehicle, a Dodge pickup truck, connected to the two suspects.

An officer and his dog, Jager, went to 12th Street, where the pickup was last seen, and started a track for the pair.

The canine team quickly located one man hiding in nearby bushes. During the arrest, the man received a minor dog bite, for which he received medical treatment. The man was in possession of a small quantity of crystal methamphetamine.

The canine team then found a woman hiding under a parked car. Jager pulled the woman from under the vehicle, leaving her with puncture wounds to her shoulder. She was later treated for her wounds.

Investigators determined that the Dodge pickup was stolen from Ladysmith on Nov. 17.

Kevin Patrick Lackie, 28, and Amie Jolene Kloss were arrested and are facing several criminal charges. Lackie is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, possession of drugs and various breach charges. Kloss faces charges of taking an auto without consent and several breach charges.
