Police urged caution after man, 62, struck at crosswalk in Nanaimo

Nanaimo RCMP are urging motorists and pedestrians to be cautious after a 62-yearold man was struck while legally using a crosswalk.

The man was treated for bumps and bruises in hospital after the collision, which occurred about 4 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Dover Road and Dickinson Crossing.

He was struck by a 77-year-old man in a pickup truck who was trying to make a left-hand turn onto Dover. The victim was knocked off his feet and backward.

Police said it appears the driver didn’t see the pedestrian, who was wearing “reasonably dark clothing.”

They said pedestrians should take a moment to think about whether they are seen before stepping off a curb, while motorists should take care when travelling over a crosswalk.
