Malahat commitment is encouragin­g

Re: “B.C. looks at ways to end Malahat delays,” Jan. 10. The article citing the B.C. government’s intention to provide convenient alternativ­e access routes when the Malahat is impassable is excellent news.

Another reason for doing so is the likely event of an earthquake. Rock falls, mud slides and a partial collapse of the Malahat during an earthquake could happen. Then what?

Air access seems to shut down at the slightest opportunit­y and as for marine, well, those facilities would be affected.

This developmen­t is encouragin­g. Our population growth and economy require it. Janet Doyle Victoria
