Highlands quarry should not be allowed

-

Re: “Highlands residents gird for fight against quarry proposal,” May 12.

This quarry proposal is the wrong project in the wrong place and should not be allowed to go ahead.

OK Industries has offered no proof that blasting is safe so close to a contaminated-waste dump and landfill. Once the aquifer underneath is contaminated forever, will the company use its profits to truck in clean water for the local community who cannot use their wells? This is already happening for residents close to the dump site.

If this project goes ahead, OK Industries will get the benefits and we will pay the costs, in poisoned water, air pollution, noise and traffic. OK has already lost community trust with its lack of dust and noise control at the current location.

We have no confidence they will do better in the future. Anna Young Langford
