Man dies in head-on crash with tanker truck near Hope

-

VANCOUVER — RCMP say a British Columbia man has died in a head-on crash with a tanker truck.

Cpl. Mike Halskov with B.C. RCMP Traffic Services said the collision happened Monday afternoon on Highway 1 just north of Hope. He said conditions were snowy and slushy when the driver, in his 70s from northern B.C., crossed into the path of the oncoming truck and died at the scene.

The truck driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A hazardous materials team was needed to recover diesel from the tanker and clean up but Halskov said no fuel spilled into the surrounding environment.

The crash closed the highway for more than 12 hours
