Hot! Temperatures could top 30° on Sunday, Monday
Get ready for the heat.
Environment Canada says the hottest days of the year are coming Sunday and Monday.
The agency issued a special weather statement for Greater Victoria and the central and eastern areas of the Island, saying a high-pressure system over much of southern B.C. will see temperatures soar over 30 C.
Environment Canada said temperatures will start to drop on Tuesday as the high-pressure ridge weakens and allows slightly cooler marine air to hit south coastal areas.
The public is advised to take measures to reduce their exposure to the heat: • Stay cool and hydrated, particularly during the hottest period of the day from 1 to 5 p.m. • Limit outdoor activity during the day to early morning and evening. • Dress for the weather by wearing loose, lightweight clothing. Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses. • Keep your home cool. Open windows, close shades or blinds, use an air conditioner and prepare meals that do not require an oven. • Never leave children or pets alone in a parked car.
