Motorcycli­st seriously injured in crash on highway in Nanaimo

A motorcycli­st is in hospital with serious injuries after a collision Thursday evening on Island Highway North in Nanaimo.

Nanaimo RCMP said a motorcycle rear-ended a vehicle on the highway near Turner Road about 11 p.m. Thursday. The motorcycli­st lost control and collided with another motorcycle.

The driver of the first motorcycle was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The highway was closed for several hours while officers and a collision analyst investigat­ed. Police said they continue to investigat­e what led to the crash.

The highway reopened for traffic before the morning rush hour on Friday.
