Our Place Society serves Greater Victoria’s most vulnerable, including people struggling with homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use issues, the working poor and impoverished elderly. Our Place Society is in need of volunteers to assist in the dining room, coffee corner, clothing room, hygiene room, front desk reception and duty outreach reception. CRD Regional Parks is currently seeking volunteer Park Stewards and Mountain Biking Stewards. Duties include: fostering positive relationships with regional park and trail visitors and recreation groups through information, education and professional role modelling. Monitor the condition of parks, trails, facilities and any observed problems or issues. This year round-role involves a weekly commitment to visit your assigned park or trail at your convenience. Centre provides essential services for persons with disabilities. We are looking for an engaged tech-savvy volunteer Social Media Co-ordinator. Detailed working knowledge of both Instagram and Facebook is required. Position is ideal for someone with a keen interest in developing their social media experience in a professional supportive work environment while volunteering for a local non-profit organization that does meaningful work in community. Oaklands Community Association
works to strengthen the Oaklands community by providing programs and resources for its residents and visitors. The “Get Growing, Victoria!” initiative is a bi-annual seedling and garden supplies distribution aimed at distributing veggie and herb seedlings. The fall seedling distribution is scheduled for Saturday Aug. 28 and we need volunteers for setup (9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) and public distribution and takedown from 12:30-4 p.m. Please call Urooj Atiqa at 250-370-9101 extension 0 to get involved.
The Royal Jubilee Hospital
Auxiliary’s objective is to help provide service to patients, families, visitors and staff as well as funding additional equipment at the hospital. Orientation training is available to anyone interested in assuming a volunteer position. You will be working with an experienced and enthusiastic group of volunteers. We are especially in need of volunteers who would be interested in working the morning shift from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parking passes are provided, but buses do stop right at the hospital. Volunteers should be willing to commit to working two or three shifts a month. Mount St. Mary Hospital, a complex-care facility, is pleased to welcome back volunteers.
Here are some volunteer possibilities. Bring music to life with iPod music therapy and the philharmonic. Make the residents smile as you assist them to attend their religious services in the chapel. Express your creativity by assisting in the art program lead by a professional artist and aide with activities lead by our talented Recreation Aides. Use your musical talents and brighten resident’s day with your abilities. Assist in exercise programs and gain practical experience with those with various physical limitations. Assist residents who need an extra hand with meals at breakfast, lunch or supper. Adapt clothing using your sewing skills. Spend time enhancing the life of a resident through friendly visits. Another opportunity is the ‘Story Project.’ Make a resident’s life known and celebrated by interviewing and recording their life stories. Our residents have rich experiences and wisdom; they love to remember the many accomplishments and achievements they have earned. The Story Project helps us share in their experiences. Seniors Serving Seniors is a nonprofit society established to promote the well-being of seniors. Do you have time on your hands? Big Brothers Big Sisters Of Victoria facilitates life-changing relationships that inspire children and youth to reach their potential. We are seeking volunteers to join the on-line marketplace team. Volunteers involved with this initiative help to raise funds to support the programs and services of the organization. As an Online Marketplace Volunteer primary duties will be to: photograph donated items and write descriptions based on their appraisal; post items on various online marketplaces.
