Live Life with “HAPPY EYES”

- By Dr. Stephen Taylor

Question: What advanced technologies do you use in your office to test eye health during examinations?

Answer: Thank you for your question! At Mayfair Optometric Clinic we have

several instruments that are used during your comprehensive eye exam to assess eye health and measure your vision.

Often, the first instrument used is an autorefractor, which allows the doctors to get a baseline estimate of your prescription, as well as measure the curve of the front the eye. A digitized topographical map can be obtained if more advanced measurements are necessary. During this time, we will check the pressure inside the eye, without even touching the eye itself.

One of our newest and most advanced pieces of equipment is called an optical coherence tomographer (OCT). Scanning at 150,000 scans a second it not only allows for pictures of the eye, but also allows us to get crosssectional images and measurements throughout the retina which can show subtle findings that can’t be seen by the naked eye. The use of this advanced instrumentation allows for earlier diagnosis and potential management of many ocular diseases including glaucoma and macular degeneration.

After we have determined your new glasses prescription, we use instruments and computerized measurements of your eyes and facial features that ensure you get the best vision and frame fit with your new glasses.

At Mayfair Optometric Clinic we provide a welcoming environment for patients to receive eye exams and pick out the perfect eyewear that works for each individual. Please give us a call to book your appointment with Dr. Peddle, Dr. Genereux, or myself.
