Writer-director Channing Godfrey Peoples made a striking feature film debut with this 2020 drama, which earned widespread acclaim for its vibrant, multidimensional characters. Nicole Beharie (“Sleepy Hollow”) heads the cast as Texas single mother Turquoise Jones, a former winner of the local Miss Juneteenth pageant. Since that event offers full college scholarships to the winners, she enters her 15-year-old daughter, Kai (Alexis Chikaeze) into this year’s competition, a development Kai receives with no enthusiasm whatsoever. Kendrick Sampson also stars.

7 p.m. on (13) (14) The Price Is Right at Night.

There’s a reason “The Price Is Right” is the longest-running game show in TV history, and the occasional nighttime editions of the series nearly always draw a big audience (and feature bigger prizes!). Host Drew Carey definitely has his heart in the right place with this newest primetime special, which celebrates first responders, inviting those selfless and tireless souls to “come on down” and compete for some lifechanging showcases.

8 p.m. on (9) Children Ruin Everything.

Emmy-winning “Schitt’s Creek” writer and co-executive producer Kurt Smeaton is the creator of this new comedy series starring Meagan Rath (“Hawaii Five-O”) and Aaron Abrams (“Hannibal”) as Astrid and James, who can only yearn wistfully for the fun days before their role as parents to little kids consumed all else. In the series premiere, Astrid has been a stay-at-home mom for four years, but she’s ready to return to work. Logan Nicholson and Mikayla SwamiNathan play the kids; Ennis Esmer and Nazneen Contractor co-star.

9 p.m. on (15) (9) Next Level Chef.

In the new episode “Infinite Pastabilities,” Gordon Ramsay and his fellow mentors Richard Blais and Nyesha Arrington challenge their teams to create a delicious Italian dinner. To prove they can create magic in any environment, even when the odds may be stacked against them, for this task each team is randomly assigned to a kitchen. Everyone on the team that creates the best dish wins safety from elimination, but one chef from another team sees his or her dreams go up in smoke.
