Suspect sought in screwdrive­r stabbing

Victoria police are asking for the public’s help in identifyin­g a man who stabbed a loss-prevention officer with a screwdrive­r after a theft was interrupte­d.

They said a man tried to steal from a business in the 900-block of Yates Street about 3 p.m. Jan. 19.

When he was confronted by the loss-prevention officer the man spat on him, then stabbed him with a screwdrive­r when he tried to apprehend him.

The victim was wearing a protective vest, which prevented serious injury.

The man fled on foot. Photos of the suspect have been released. He is described as white and five-foot-nine with a slim build, and was wearing a baseball cap with a red brim, black jacket over a grey hoodie and blue jeans.
