11:30 a.m. on (18) 148th Kentucky Derby.

It’s time for the Run for the Roses again, as the 148th Kentucky Derby kicks off today at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. — and serves as the first leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown. Sometimes labeled as the “most exciting two minutes in sports,” the race is run by three-year-old Thoroughbreds who sprint 1-1/4 miles. The 2021 race became mired in controversy when jockey John Velazquez rode the Bob Baffert-trained Medina Spirit to victory. But months later, Mandaloun was awarded the win after Medina Spirit tested positive for a steroid.

8 p.m. on (55) Movie: The 355.

Playwright Theresa Rebeck (TV’s “Smash”) wrote the screenplay for this 2022 spy thriller from Simon Kinberg (“Legion”), about a fictional group of international agents who join forces to stop a terrorist organization that is trying to ignite World War III. The title is derived from Agent 355, the codename of a female spy for the patriots during the American Revolution. The impressive cast, headed by recent Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain, also includes Penélope Cruz, Lupita Nyong’o, Diane Kruger and Sebastian Stan.

10 p.m. on (45) History’s Greatest Mysteries.

The new episode “Jack the Ripper” looks back at a notorious spree of gruesome murders by a serial killer who primarily targeted prostitutes in Victorian England. The shocking reports of the Ripper’s evisceration of his victims shocked both England and the world at large. Even today, the identity of this homicidal maniac still remains a mystery, although speculation persists that “Jack” may have had a close connection with England’s royal family.
