90-year-old woman completes swim across Okanagan Lake

-

A 90-year-old Kelowna woman swam 2.1 kilometres across Okanagan Lake Saturday during the 74th annual Across the Lake Swim. It was the sixth time Conny Stamhuis has completed the swim.

Hundreds of swimmers took to the water at the old ferry docks on the west side of the lake, and finished at Kelowna’s Hot Sands Beach in City Park.

“I’m happy I made it,” Stamhuis said after the swim. “It was wonderful. The end is always difficult if you swim competitively, to just get there, but I had gotten this far, it was just a matter of being able to move forward. Everything was with me, I had Lady Luck on my shoulder all the way.”

Stamhuis completed the swim in about one hour, raising about $16,000 for Doctors Without Borders.
