Writers’ Trust Gala

November 13, Four Seasons Hotel Margaret Atwood refers to full-time writers as “the fraternity of the softshell crab,” a.k.a. the clan of lucky people who can earn a living while spending all day in their pyjamas. At the 33rd annual Writers’ Trust Gala, literary icons—including Atwood herself—stepped out of their bunny slippers and suited up to celebrate Canadian authors. This year’s recipient of the Writers’ Trust Fellowship was Charles Foran. In his acceptance speech, while there was no mention of jammies, he did profess his love for his occasional writing companion, Jameson whiskey.
