Ever since this whole thing started, Scotiabank Arena, typically a locus of immense joy, has transformed into a bunker of disappointment. Concerts were cancelled, the Raptors moved to Florida, and the Leafs, well, they did what they always do. But something shifted at the beginning of summer. The arena used all its square footage to create a mega vaccination clinic, delivering 26,771 doses in a single day, shattering the North American record previously set at the Texas Motor Speedway. Pre-pandemic, it would have been impossible to imagine a society in which getting vaccinated was a can’t-miss item on people’s summer checklist. And yet here we were, lining up in droves, impatiently waiting to get the most exciting needle of our lifetime.
