How to donate
The Toronto Star would like to invite all groups dedicated to the welfare and relief of hurricane victims to join us in a team effort. Send details of relief your group offers to city@thestar.com or fax 416-869-4328. Those helping victims of Katrina include:
Canadian Red Cross: Has sent 37 volunteers to the disaster zone. Donate directly at 1-800-418- 1111 or www.redcross.ca.
Banks and credit unions: Donations at major bank branches and many credit unions will be sent to the Canadian Red Cross.
Whole Foods Market: Top up grocery purchases with a donation, which Whole Foods will match up to a total of $1 million (U.S.) and give to the American Red Cross. Stores are at 301 Cornwall Rd., Oakville, and 87 Avenue Rd., Toronto.
The Salvation Army: Help feed the hungry. 1800-SAL-ARMY or www.salvationarmy.ca.
Ve’ahavta: Canadian Jewish Humanitarian and Relief Committee is raising funds for basic necessities and evacuation. 416-9647698 or www. veahavta.org.
