Metro Bowl returning

- DAVID GROSSMAN SPORTS REPORTER

The Metro Bowl high school football final is back at the Rogers Centre.

After much discontent over staging the event in Hamilton last year, officials decided it made more sense to play the Dec. 8 game indoors — even if the rental tab is $ 30,000. Mike Thorpe, with the Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Association, said the Metro Bowl will be one of four regional high school finals that will be staged at the dome.

“ We had to break our relationship with the Vanier Cup, having played our games the day before the university final, because they’re off to Saskatchewan next year,” said Thorpe. The National Capital Bowl, Western Bowl and Golden Horseshoe Bowl, as well as the Canadian elementary school flag football final, will all precede the game that puts Toronto bragging rights on the line.
