Veteran MacInnis expected to announce his retirement today

St. Louis Blues defenceman Al MacInnis will announce his retirement during a news conference today, according to a source.

MacInnis, a veteran of 23 NHL seasons, hasn’t played since October 2003. The 42year- old native of Inverness, N. S., suffered a serious eye injury during a game early in that season. MacInnis, who won the Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenceman in 1999, led all NHL defencemen in scoring in 2002-03 with 68 points in 80 games as well as posting a plus- 22 rating.
