Hedge on jet fuel

WestJet Airlines Ltd., which has been flying without a priceprote­ction hedge on its jet fuel, said it now has made a forward purchase of part of its autumn requiremen­ts. The airline said it will pay 70.7 cents per litre for 40 per cent of its expected September consumptio­n, 20 per cent of its October needs and 10 per cent of its forecast November demand. The nearmonth futures contract for jet fuel was at the equivalent of 66 cents a litre yesterday.
