Man United, Spurs rally to win

SOCCER ROUNDUP Keane comes on to score winner for Tottenham

-

Manchester United and Tottenham rallied to victories yesterday in the English Premier League. Ruud van Nistelrooy scored two goals to lead United over Fulham 3- 2, and Robbie Keane came off the bench to score the winning goal in Tottenham’s 3- 2 win at second- place Charlton.

Collins John put Fulham ahead after two minutes, but van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney scored to send Man United in front. Claus Jensen made it 2- 2 with a free kick before United got another goal from van Nistelrooy in the final minute of the first half.

Darren Bent scored two goals for Charlton. Tottenham replied with goals from Ledley King and Mido before Keane scored the winner in the 80th minute. Tottenham is even with Charlton but in third place on goal difference. Both teams are six points behind defending champion Chelsea, which plays at Liverpool today. GERMANY: Injury- plagued Bayern Munich used a goalkeeper who had not played in nearly five years, and still beat Wolfsburg 2- 0 to remain in first place in the Bundesliga. Roque Santa Cruz scored in the 67th minute and Lucio added the other in injury time to keep the defending champions two points ahead of Werder Bremen.

Bayern had eight players injured, including Michael Ballack, before goalie Oliver Kahn said during warmups he couldn’t play because of a bruised knee. With Kahn’s backup also hurt, 38- year-old goalkeeper coach Bernd Dreher was pressed into service for the first time since early 2001.

“ That was a huge surprise because we didn’t think Kahn’s injury was that bad,” Bayern coach Felix Magath said. “ I was sure Bernd would be ready, but thank God we withstood these 90 minutes.’’

Dreher wasn’t tested often before a home crowd. Steve Marlet had the best chance for Wolfsburg when his 57th- minute attempt ricocheted off the post.

Also, Bremen rallied past Hertha Berlin 2- 1 with two goals in the final four minutes, and Schalke climbed into fourth place with the 1- 0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt. ITALY: Treviso earned its first point in the Italian league by holding Chievo Verona to a 0- 0 tie.

Treviso, coming off five straight losses, never let Chievo come close to its net and nearly scored in the first half when Chievo goalkeeper Alberto Fontana made saves on long shots by Fabio Gallo and Francesco Parravicini.

Victor Obinna beat two defenders and kicked wide from the edge of the penalty area in the 77th for Chievo’s only scoring chance.

Meanwhile, Vincenzo Iaquinta returned after a contract dispute that kept him out of three games to score once and set up another as Udinese defeated Lazio 3- 0 for its first victory in three contests. SCOTLAND: Celtic and defending champion Rangers each won big in the Scottish Premier League.

Celtic, which is in second place and trails Hearts by two points, beat Livingston 5-0. Rangers topped Dunfermline 5- 1. Stephen McManus, Shaun Maloney, Maciej Zurawski, Chris Sutton and Craig Beattie scored for Celtic. Thomas Buffel, Dado Prso, Federico Nieto, Peter Lovenkrands and Ross McCormack scored for Rangers.

Hearts can regain its five- point lead by winning at Falkirk today. FRANCE: Paris Saint- Germain closed within one point of fourtime defending champion Lyon after beating Nantes 2- 0 in the French League.

Pauleta scored his league- leading seventh goal of the season after Mario Yepes had given PSG the lead. PSG has 20 points from 10 games. Lyon has 21 from nine and plays at Rennes today. Associated Press Soccer scores. B9
