Pit bull legislation waste of paper

-

Re Urban thug accessory Nov. 27.

Jennifer Wells has crafted a finely written, well researched and extremely well-thoughtout piece and has presented it with balance and what is obviously great compassion and understanding of all sides of a sensitive issue. A total contrast to Ontario Attorney- General Michael Bryant’s Bill 132, which is none of those things. Kudos to the Star for not only running it, but for running it on the front page, considering your immediate and unwavering support for the bill when it was first introduced.

Bryant had the opportunity to produce a piece of legislation to protect people and at the same time to be fair to all concerned. Instead, he hastily cobbled together a piece of bad legislation, designed with the sole purpose of attracting votes for him and his party on the basis that he “ did something.” The effectiveness of that “ something” was best summed up in Sylvia Barkey’s comment, “ The legislation is not protecting anybody,” she says. So true. What a waste of our Legislature’s time. Not to mention the paper the legislation is written on. Nice work, Ms Wells. Gavin Burgess, Thornhill
