* October, 1995 : Bre- X says Busang could contain more than 30 million ounces of gold. * July, 1996: Bre- X raises Busang estimate to 46.92 million ounces. * February, 1997: Bre- X raises estimate to 70.95 million ounces. March 19: Bre- X geologist Michael de Guzman reported killed in a fall from a helicopter over the Indonesian jungle in an apparent suicide. March 26: Bre- X partner Freeportsa­ys preliminar­y tests “indicate insignific­ant amounts of gold.’’ Trading of Bre- X shares is halted. April: Ontario Securities Commission reveals it started an investigat­ion in late 1995 into possible illegal insider trading by Bre- X executives. July: John Felderhof, the former chief geologist for Bre- X, says he had nothing to do with falsifying drilling results. * June, 1998: Former Bre- X CEO David Walsh, 52, dies in the Bahamas of a brain aneurysm. * May, 1999: OSC lays eight charges against Felderhof, accusing him of selling $84 million of Bre- X stock in 1996 while having informatio­n not disclosed to investors. * October, 2000: Felderhof fails to appear at the start of his insider-trading trial. * December, 2004: Trial resumes after years of legal wrangling. * March 16, 2005: Felderhof makes first court appearance.
