Operator: “911, do you require police, fire or ambulance?” ‰“ Neither.” ‰“ What are the roads like?” ‰“ I just programmed 911 into my phone and I wanted to see if it actually worked.” ‰“ Yeah, I’m on the highway and I can see the OPP closing all the ramps . . . I’m just wondering what’s going on because I’m in a hurry.” ‰“ My neighbour is ‘looking’ at me. Can I file a complaint?” ‰“ My keys are locked in my car, can you help me?” (two calls in the same hour from different malls) ‰“ What is the capital of the new territory up north, Nunavut?” ‰“ What is the four-day forecast?” ‰“ Why is the traffic backed up? . . . (10 minutes later) We’re stuck in traffic, so we thought we’d call back because there’s nothing better to do.” ‰“ What is the number for the cellphone company?” ‰“ How do I get to the casino?” ‰“ When is the rain going to stop? We rented a park to have a family baseball tournament.” ‰“ What’s the number for hydro?” ‰“ It’s not really an emergency, but I didn’t know what other number to call.” ‰“ What is the number for the refrigerator repairman?” ‰“ I reported a speeder last week — did the officer gave him a ticket?” ‰“ Why are the snowplows driving so slow? They’re in my way!” ‰“ What do I do about the rabid cat in my driveway? I am unable to reach the humane society.” ‰“ I’m not really sure this is an emergency, but I saw some hitchhikers on the side of the highway.” ‰“ There is a dog in the back of a pickup truck and it’s snowing out and the dog looks cold.” — Sample 911 calls to OPP
