Will welcome new soccer stadium

Re New soccer stadium

I am a big fan of soccer. As a resident of Toronto, however, I have been forced to watch all of my professional soccer games on television, save for a single game at the Rogers Centre ( Celtic vs. Roma, July 2004). It should come as no surprise, then, that I was pleased with the decisions made by all three levels of government to fund a brand new soccer stadium to be located on the Exhibition grounds. What I am not pleased with is the repeated negativity that the approved stadium has been treated to in the print media. While the Major League Soccer ( MLS) team that Toronto has been tentatively awarded may not represent this city’s first brush with professional soccer, it nonetheless represents a significant improvement to any other pro soccer franchise this city has held. Moreover, with a new stadium being built, Toronto’s MLS team will be much more accessible to soccer fans. As for the cost of the project, I admit the financial arrangements are not perfect. However, the cost of this stadium still pales in comparison to the amount of money that has been spent on other stadiums and theatre complexes. The average Torontonian will only spend about $ 5.50 on this project. Try to put this into perspective the next time you fill up at the pump or have your home renovated. As for me, I plan to take advantage of my $ 5.50. Alexander Leonard, Toronto
