Seems like I’ve lost my right to vote

Re Coming election

I heard there’s a federal election coming up, but people in the District of Timiskaming don’t know yet. You see, the federal electoral boundaries commission ripped apart our riding in order to provide Toronto with an MP at every street corner. I live in Kirkland Lake, formerly in the riding and District of Timiskaming, formerly in the riding of Timiskaming French River and now in the riding of Timmins James Bay.

I have been trying for more than a week now to find out where I vote or if I’m going to be allowed to vote.

In the last federal election, a candidate from Timiskaming District was elected. NDP member Charlie Angus was our MP. He doesn’t even live in the riding, but he does live in Timiskaming. So now, Elections Canada hasn’t sent me a voter’s registration card. It hasn’t even told me if I can vote or not. I phoned and emailed its offices. It responded with phone numbers for me to call. I called and got tape recordings, not people, to talk to.

It’s one thing to take away our electoral district. It’s quite another to take away my right to vote. So since Elections Canada doesn’t answer its telephones and the people of Timiskaming don’t have a riding anymore, can anybody tell me if we, the people of Timiskaming, are still part of Canada? Or do they want to take our citizenship away, too? Jeff Wilkinson, Kirkland Lake, Ont.
