THE FIXER No trash can at busy spot that could use one
Of all the advancements of modern technology, few surpass the trash receptacle. But just try finding one where it is really needed. The corner of Bayview Ave. and Lawrence Ave. W. is always buzzing with kids. York University’s Glendon campus is on the east side of Bayview and the Toronto French School is on the south side of Lawrence, which means the four TTC bus stops in the immediate area are wellused. One of those bus stops is on Bayview, near the southwest corner of Bayview and Lawrence and right in front of Gary Bryson’s house. A tall hedge provides some privacy for Bryson’s yard, and also catches a lot of the windblown trash left behind by TTC riders.
There’s no garbage can at the bus stop, which means anyone waiting for a bus while sipping a cup of takeout coffee has nowhere to get rid of the cup.
In a phone call, Bryson said a lot of trash that people would otherwise toss into a garbage can ends up on his property and the sidewalk in front, adding that he’s been calling the city for about a year to ask for a receptacle but can’t get one. He says a city official told him that they’ve run out of garbage bins.
There wasn’t much litter around the stop yesterday, which may be an indication of Bryson’s diligence.
