LEWD QUIPS TRUMP TOWEL FLICKS?

-

Chances are you have seen TV teasers for MVP.

For once, the CBC is aggressively pushing its new shows, including the steamy soap where the desperate housewives are married to hockey players. It debuts Friday.

One of the provocative ads (aired early on a Hockey Night in Canada broadcast) led to a reprimand from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission which, in responce to a viewer’s complaint, found it too smutty to air before 9 p.m.

In the ad, bitchy team owner Louise Pitre is in the locker room facing off with the new star rookie. “Let’s see what $5 million buys us,” she smirks. He is wearing nothing but a towel, which she suddenly removes, although viewers don’t see what’s undereath.

Now the CBC has dropped that promo and is airing new ones, including one where the rookie displays his torso while a lewd female image-maker vows: “I’m going to position you as the most visible rookie in the league.”

Clearly this series shoots, but can it score? Either way, give the CBC an honourary Gemini for getting down and dirty. Martin Knelman
