Here’s the beef on helping environment

- Christopher Leinonen, Toronto

Re Repeat after us: ‘The sky is not falling, the sky . . .’ Ideas, Jan. 5

Frank Furedi sets the tone of his “case against pessimism” by sarcastically jabbing Paul McCartney for suggesting vegetarianism is the best way to combat climate change, thereby discrediting himself.

Reducing meat intake is indeed the best thing an individual can do to reduce their environmental footprint. Meat production, especially our precious (Alberta) beef, contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. Cutting down on meat has a much greater impact than changing your light bulbs or taking the bus to work.

Furedi should get his facts straight before telling us the sky won’t fall.
