PHYLLIS (O’GORMAN) BUCKLEY 1918 - 2012

On Friday, March 2, 2012 surrounded by family, Mary Phyllis Catherine Buckley passed away. Born in Toronto on July 22, 1918, of parents Peter James and Mary Laura O’gorman. She was the eldest of five: Howard, Miriam, Wilfred, and Lois who each predecease­d her. Phyllis spent her early years in Sudbury, Ontario where she trained as a cub reporter and later a teacher. A gifted teacher, she inspired students in Killarney, Sudbury, and Toronto where she ultimately completed an ESL specializa­tion. In 1942, she became engaged to the love of her life, William Barron Buckley, who served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII and later a chartered accountant. Together, they lived successive­ly in Halifax, Sydney, Montreal and Toronto where they celebrated 65 years of marriage. A devoted mother, Phyllis is survived by an extended family of five children and their spouses: Marilyn (Tom Sutton), Bill (Anne Buckley), Tim (Naomie Boylan), Phillip andbeatric­e (Michael Cookson). With her elegance and wisdom, she delighted her grandchild­ren: Stephen, Paul, Matthew, Meagan, Laura, Petra, Ian, Hannah, Nicholas, Madelaine and Amelia, as well as her five greatgrand­children. The family would like to thank Phyllis’s wonderful caregivers for their kind and respectful care. Friends will be received at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Friday, March 9 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with reflection­s and prayers beginning at 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held in ST. ANSELM CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1 Macnaughto­n Road, Toronto, on Saturday, March 10 at 10:00 a.m. For those who wish, donations may be made to a literacy program in your neighbourh­ood or local school.
