Plainclothes officer cleared in shooting

-

The provincial police watchdog has found there are no reasonable grounds to charge a plainclothes Peel Regional Police officer who shot a Brampton man, Jarnail Singh, through a car window on Jan. 27 on Velvet Grass Lane.

The SIU says the two officers asked Singh to get out of the vehicle but instead, he began reversing, and his passenger-side mirror struck one of the officers. The other officer, the subject of the SIU investigation, shot Singh. SIU director Ian Scott said the subject officer feared for his partner’s life and may have mistakenly believed him to be pinned and dragged by the moving car.
