PENNILESS FUTURE

-

Producing one penny costs 1.6 cents. The mint will save $11 million a year when it stops penny production. Pennies can still be used. But when the coin isn’t handy items will be rounded up or down to the nearest five cents. So a $1.06 coffee becomes $1.05. There will be no rounding or other changes to transactions using cheques, credit or debit cards.
