SAMUEL LUNENFELD RESEARCH INSTITUTE A major renewal of the hospital’s facilities.

The extraordinary talent of Mount Sinai Hospital’s researchers and clinicians will now be reflected in a major renewal of the hospital’s facilities.

For more than 90 years, Mount Sinai has had an unwaivering commitment to delivering the very best in patient care and clinical outcomes for every patient, every day. First founded as a small maternity and convalescent hospital, Mount Sinai is now considered to be an international leader in patient care, research and education. Today, that same drive for excellence is making the hospital’s major capital redevelopment project a reality.

“Mount Sinai is entering an historic new era,” says Joseph Mapa, President and CEO of mount Sinai Hospital. “We are re-imagining the footprint of the entire hospital to further strengthen our commitment to delivering excellence in patient and family-centred care and clinical outcomes.”

The completion this spring of six new floors on the west side of the building is the first major milestone of Mount Sinai’s multi-year capital redevelopment project. It will house Mount Sinai’s Frances Bloomberg Centre for Women’s and Infants’ Health, as well as other clinical and research spaces.

The expansion has added close to 130,000 square feet of space to the hospital and features state-of-the-art technology and innovative new models of care.

This past September, Ontario Premier Dalton Mcguinty announced further funding for the next phase of Mount Sinai’s capital redevelopment, which includes the emergency department, surgical suites and critical care units.

“This is just the beginning. Together with the Province of Ontario and our generous donors, patients and families, we are not only expanding our physical space, we are transforming how we deliver the best medicine to our patients and inspiring cutting-edge research,” says Mapa.

“The one thing that has remained constant since Mount Sinai was founded is its pursuit of excellence. This is reflected in the world-class research happening at the Lunenfeld, as well as our commitment to delivering the best patient experience and clinical outcomes.”
