TV TONIGHT: FIVE WORTH WATCHING

-

Canadian Music’s Night Out: What other awards show can boast Captain Kirk as its host? Native son William Shatner helms The 2012 Juno Awards from Ottawa. Look for the likes of Blue Rodeo, City and Colour, Feist, K’naan, deadmau5 and more to perform, and everyone from hard rockers Anvil to Borgias hottie François Arnaud to hand out the hardware (CTV at 8).

Country Music, Too: If you like what you’ve seen of country star Blake Shelton on The Voice, you can check him out when he co-hosts The 47th Academy of Country Music Awards with Reba Mcentire. Shelton also performs as do Chris Young, The Band Perry, Lady Antebellum and Rascal Flatts (CTV Two, CBS at 8).

Bringing in the Dead: Titanic: The Aftermath tells how a Canadian team charged with recovering the Titanic’s dead, led by Halifax public servant John Henry Barnstead, developed a system for identifying the victims that is still used in modern disasters, including the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center (Discovery at 8).

Battle Stations: Say so long for now to your favourite succubus. Lost Girl wraps its season with Bo (Anna Silk) leading her friends into battle ahead of schedule when an enemy forces her hand. And you can whet your appetite with the Lost Girl Pre-show Special, with footage from the Toronto set and interviews with Silk and other cast members (Showcase at 8).

Masterpiece Classic: She did such a good job in Bleak House seven years ago, we’re bound to have Great Expectations for Gillian Anderson in yet another Dickens classic. Anderson ( The X-files) stars in this new adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations as the mentally unhinged Miss Havisham. David Suchet ( Poirot), Ray Winstone ( Hugo) and Douglas Booth ( The Pillars of the Earth) also star (WNED at 9). Debra Yeo
