3. What would a historic town be without a few things that go bump in the night? There are regular evening ghost tours, starting in the Fort George parking lot and taking in several haunted sites. You’ll also learn a little of the science of parapsychology. Tours are Sundays in June at 8:30 p.m., Sundays in September at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in July and August at 8:30 p.m. Keep your eyes peeled; there’s one spectre who’s said to tag along. 4. Music Niagara, July 13-Aug. 11, 34 concerts of classical, jazz and other music from morning until midnight, in a variety of settings, including restaurants, wineries and churches. Tickets are $15 to $45. 5. Canada Day at Fort George, July 1 is extra special in the 200th anniversary year of the War of1812. Celebrations include a pancake break- fast and barbecue lunch in Simcoe Park, and a barbecue dinner at the fort, followed by fireworks. 6. Artistry by the Lake on the Canada Day weekend also features a two-day juried show in Queen’s Royal Park by more than 80 artists. 7. Farmers’ Market every Saturday at the corner of Niagara Stone Rd. (Hwy. 55) and Niven Rd. Local produce, fresh-baked bread and pastries, workshops, kids’ crafts and yoga. If you’ve never been before, you get to ring the “newbie bell.” 8. Bicentennial fife and drummuster and soldiers’ field day, Saturday, Aug. 18, Fort George, including 25th anniversary of the 41st Regiment fife-and-drum corps. Corps from both sides of the border will play and there will be a competition of 1812 drill teams from Forts George, Malden, York and Fort Erie.

9. You can tour the area on every- thing from bicycles to horseback, or, for those 16 and over, electric scooters. Horseback trail rides are guided and there are also guided bike tours. Or you can rent a twowheeler and head off on your own. It’s a good way to visit a winery or two, as long as you remember that drinking and riding don’t mix. 10. Finally, some non-gentle amusement: Whirlpool Jet Boats offer wild and wet (unless you opt for one of their fully enclosed vessels) rides up the Niagara River, through the rapids and the whirlpool.
