Five things to see and do at Fan Expo Canada
If you’re a fan of gaming, horror, comics, science fiction and anime, Fan Expo Canada likely has something for you. Dubbed “the Comic-Con of the North,” the18th annual event offers more than 700 exhibitors and vendors over 400,000 square feet at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. That’s a lot of stuff. Here are five things to see and do: HALO 4: Get your Master Chief on and be among the first to play one of the year’s most hotly anticipated games, Halo 4. FRANKENWEENIE: Get a look at the stop-motion animation process used by filmmaker Tim Burton in the Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition. It includes original sketches by Burton, props, sets and puppets from the anticipated animated film Frankenweenie (due in theatres in October) about a boy who brings his beloved dog back from the dead. BACK TO THE FUTURE: We can’t guarantee it will disappear in a flash of blue light and propel you backwards or forwards in time, but you can at least get a look at the DeLorean time machine used in the Back to the Future films and help the Michael J. Fox Foundation fight Parkinson’s disease at the same time. MASQUERADE: This event brings new meaning to the term “costume party” as fans in every type of getup imaginable show off their outfits onstage for a chance to win bragging rights. You can compete or just watch, Saturday at 8 p.m. LIVE ACTION ANIME: See your anime favourites come to life, sort of, in a martial arts display by Thousand Pounds Productions. Just beware of the “splatter zone.” Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
