Week 13 IN THE CFL

- Compiled by Bob Mitchell

FRIDAY HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (4-7) AT WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (2-9)

Canad Inns Stadium 8 p.m. (TSN) With their five-game losing streak over, the Tiger-Cats have a chance to get on another roll. A win this week will keep their Eastern playoff hopes alive. After a slow start, QB Henry

Burris caught fire against the Eskimos leading the Ticats to a 51-8 victory, throwing for 418 yards and three TDs for a league-leading 27 strikes. He used eight receivers, including Chris Williams, who scored his 12th major. Former Argo DB Dee

Webb had a monster game, blocking a field goal that led to a Bakari Grant TD. He intercepted another for a TD. DB Brock Campbell earned defensive player of the week honours with seven tackles and a sack. The good news for Bombers fans is that Buck

Pierce is back. The bad news is that Winnipeg’s slim playoff hopes will get worse if they lose. Last year’s Grey Cup finalists have dropped four in a row since Tim Burke replaced Paul LaPolice. Who wins? Tiger-Cats

SATURDAY B.C. LIONS (8-3) AT EDMONTON ESKIMOS (5-6)

Commonwealth Stadium 7:30 p.m. (TSN) Edmonton has lost three straight, including that beatdown by the Ticats last week. Their quarterbacking is in shambles. Their running game isn’t much better. Their defence, once the best in the West, is now falling apart. They’ve given up 102 points in the last three games. The Lions nearly blew last week’s game before beating the Argos 28-23 at home. The Argos couldn’t contain Lions QB

Travis Lulay. He should have no trouble passing and running against the Esks. Lulay has thrown a TD in 22 straight games and he’s also beaten teams with his running. He was named the CFL’s offensive player of the week while slotback Shawn Gore was top Canadian with 96 yards on three catches and a TD. Ageless

Geroy Simon has caught a pass in 170 straight games. Who wins? Lions

SUNDAY TORONTO ARGONAUTS (6-5) AT MONTREAL ALOUETTES (7-4)

Percival Molson Stadium, 1 p.m. (TSN, TSN Radio 1050) The Argos nearly beat the Lions in a game they had no business winning as penalties, dropped passes and the poor protection of QB Ricky Ray bit them continually. They’ve taken far too many penalties. Players called a team meeting to rectify the situation. Saskatchewan could have beaten Montreal last week had they not taken 181 yards in penalties. The Argos can’t afford to continue getting infractions when they play the Alouettes and crafty QB Anthony Calvillo. Toronto beat Montreal 2320 earlier this season. Another win will give them the tiebreaker should these teams end tied for first in the East. Chad Kackert should be back. Als running back Brandon Whitaker is gone for the season with a torn ACL so Victor Anderson gets the ball. Receiver Brian Bratton is also out for a couple of games with a knee injury. Calvillo has had a very ordinary past two weeks. Who wins? Argos

SUNDAY CALGARY STAMPEDERS (7-4) AT SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS (5-6)

Mosaic Stadium, 4 p.m. (TSN) The Stampeders are rolling, seeking their fifth straight win after last week’s 44-3 victory over the hapless Blue Bombers. Nik Lewis and Jon

Cornish are playing like all-stars. Lewis caught his 700th CFL pass and went over the 10,000 mark for a career in the blowout. Cornish leads all rushers. QB Kevin Glenn continued terrific play, hitting 17 of 23 for 298 yards. Returner Larry Taylor is gone for the season with an injury. Rookie QB Drew Willy had a decent first start despite a 28-17 loss to the Alouettes, completing 22 of 34 passes for 225 yards and a TD but also threw two key interceptions. He’s expected to start again with Darian Durant sidelined with a hip flexor. Who wins? Stampeders Bob Mitchell’s record

Last week: 4-0 Season: 24-20
