ABOUT THE ATKINSON FELLOWSHIP
The Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy is an annual award for a Canadian journalist to undertake a research project on a public policy issue. It culminates in the publication of a series of articles in the Toronto Star.
Founded in 1988, the fellowship promotes social and economic justice as well as the commitment to liberal journalism espoused by Joseph E. Atkinson, former publisher of the Toronto Star.
The Fellowship is held for a oneyear period, from Sept. 1 to Aug.31. During this time, the fellow is expected to work exclusively on his or her research and is paid a stipend of $75,000 and up to $25,000 for research expenses.
The award is jointly sponsored by The Atkinson Charitable Foundation, the Toronto Star and the Honderich Family.
