Industry experts will explain hot topics on new radio show

There is a ton of information and the show will explain it

- BRYAN TUCKEY Bryan Tuckey is the president and CEO of the Building Industry and Land Development Association ( bildgta.ca) and can be found on Twitter @bildgta, Facebook, Youtube and BILD’S blog ( bildblogs.ca).

One of BILD’s goals this year is to get better at telling our story so that you know what it’s doing for homeowners, homebuyers and how the industry is working for you.

Since we are the voice of the land development, home building and professional renovation industry in the GTA, we’re taking it to the airwaves by sponsoring a radio show called The Real Estate Talk

Show, on AM640. Every Saturday at 6 p.m., the show will cover hot topics in the industry so that you can get the news straight from us.

To kick things off, I went to the studios inside the Corus Quay building on Queens Quay East earlier this week for an in-studio interview with the hosts of the show, Simon Giannini and Erin McCoy. Giannini is a real estate broker and author, so he brings his industry knowledge to his hosting duties. McCoy is also a real estate broker and she uses her experience as a television and radio host to get the best out of her interviews.

“There is a ton of information online and there’s a ton of information in the newspapers, but a lot of it is just raw data,” says Giannini, describing the thought process behind the show. “It’s hard to make sense of it all and that’s where we come in.”

The plan is to have industry experts, municipal mayors and councillors and economists on the show. My weekly columns and the news out of our industry will also inform the topics.

As well, once a month, BILD will send one of their members to the studio so that they can bring their perspective to the listeners.

With more than 1,400 member companies, it won’t be hard to find someone who can tell you about the number of condominium projects in the pipeline and the boost it brings to the region and prov- ince’s economy. We’ll also have members telling you about the work we’re doing with our government partners to bring you more ground-related housing. Right now, there isn’t a lot of choice out there and it’s because the land has been constrained by provincial policy — but we’re working toward change and we’ll make sure to bring you the latest information on that, and much more. For the listeners thinking about renovating, we’ll have a show or two with tips on how to find a reputable RenoMark renovator. And for business owners, we’ll keep you posted on the sector of our industry that builds industrial, office and retail spaces, so that residents can work close to home. Like most radio stations, this one will have podcasts available for download on their website and we’ll be sending them out to our members and over our social media feeds, too. This is an opportunity to hear it right from the source. We want to tell our industry’s stories, debunk myths and set the record straight. I hope you’ll tune in and listen.
