Cab fare dispute ends in fatal crash

-

A multi-vehicle collision that left one man dead Monday morning began with a cab fare dispute.

A taxicab, a pickup truck and a Ford Escape SUV were involved in the collision at Royal York Rd. and Lawrence Ave. W. shortly before 8:30, Traffic Services Const. Clint Stibbe said.

He said the cab’s 23-year-old rider pushed the taxi’s driver out and commandeered it before the crash; the 23-yearold was arrested after he fled the scene. A man in his 60s, who was in the SUV, succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The dead man’s 39-year-old daughter was in the car with him and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A third man suffered minor wounds.
