Brady braces for questions

Pats QB agrees to protection after knee injury in practice; Miller might miss six games

-

Tom Brady glanced down at his left knee brace, the one he wasn’t wearing when he was injured last week.

It was on at practice Monday, with some encouragement from Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

“Mr. Kraft felt pretty strongly about me wearing it,” Brady told a pack of reporters. “He said, ‘What’s the problem?’ I said, ‘I’ll wear it. I’ll wear it.’ ”

No sense taking chances with the twotime NFL MVP and the key to the success of New England’s rebuilt offence. The sprained knee Brady suffered at practice last Wednesday sent chills through Patriots fans and was still a major subject on Monday, the first time Brady spoke to the media since the incident.

The Patriots never made an announcement about the injury, but Brady knew he was OK soon after he was knocked over by left tackle Nate Solder, who had been pushed back by Tampa Bay defensive end Adrian Clayborn during a joint practice. He knew the injury wasn’t going to be serious “as soon as I got inside and had our trainers get a chance to look at it,” he said. “There’re a lot worse injuries that I’ve had and a lot of guys have played with far worse.”

The Patriots play the Detroit Lions on Thursday night. LIONS: Canadian Cory Greenwood’s season is over. Detroit waived Greenwood four days after he was injured in a 24-6 exhibition loss to Cleveland. A source told The Canadian Press that Greenwood has a shoulder ailment that will require season-ending surgery. Greenwood’s CFL rights belong to the Argonauts, who drafted him third overall in 2010. BRONCOS: Von Miller lined up at his usual position Monday and flashed the freakish athletic moves that might soon be missing from Denver’s ramshackle defence. The all-pro linebacker brushed past reporters after another stellar practice, choosing not to stop and talk about the latest report that he could be facing an even longer suspension than originally thought. ESPN reported that Miller might have to sit out at least six games for violating the league’s drug abuse policy. Previously, it was believed Miller was facing a month-long suspension to start the 2013 season. Miller had repeatedly expressed confidence he would win an appeal of any pending penalty, insisting he had “done nothing wrong.” Now, Miller is unlikely to go forward with such an appeal, which was expected to be heard Tuesday, ESPN reported.
