Re Troubled MMA Railway may be sold by year’s

end, Sept. 28 You refer to “the now-notorious company implicated in the deadly train disaster in Lac-Mégantic.” Why “implicated in the deadly” rather than “that caused the deadly . . .”? Why is everyone softening the situation by creating an amorphous range of causes?

The simple cause of the accident is that the railroad company’s president did not want to spend $200 to keep a qualified engineer with the train overnight, to oversee a train and cargo worth $5 million. Why is the president not facing 47 charges of criminal negligence causing death? Edward J. Farkas, Toronto
