Experts and expertise at the Fall Home Show

- Bryan Tuckey

This weekend is the Toronto Fall Home Show. Add it to your to-do list and head down to Exhibition Place to take a stroll through it.

The 25th annual show opened on Thursday, Oct. 3 and runs until Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Better Living Centre. We expect about 32,000 people to attend and there will be more than 300 exhibitors.

Presented by Scotiabank, the show is produced by Marketplace Events in partnership with BILD.

If you’re looking for something to do on Saturday, I’ll be participating in a panel discussion starting at 11:30 a.m. that’s titled Buying, Selling & Investing in Real Estate in the GTA. It’s presented by BILD, Homes Publishing and The Real Estate Talk Show. It’s free with your home show ticket. There will be swag bags of free goodies for the first 350 people and door prizes, too.

The expert panel includes Mary Stergiadis from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Barry Ray from Scotiabank, Debbie Cosic from In2ition Realty and Real Estate Talk Show hosts Simon Giannini and Erin McCoy. We’ll be talking about the new home and resale market, as well as tips for first-time buyers, investors and sellers.

Throughout the home show, you’ll find hundreds of experts on everything from kitchen and bathroom renovations to design and decor.

The BILD booth, Destination Renovation, features inspirational “before” and “after” photos of finalists and winners of BILD’s Renovation and Custom Home Awards.

Every day we’ll have volunteer RenoMark renovators at the booth dishing out free advice.

Homeowners can bring drawings and photos of projects they want to undertake, and with some advice from out on-site experts, we promise you’ll walk away feeling informed.

At the BILD booth, you can also pick up a free contact list of the GTA’s RenoMark renovators and a RenoGuide, which includes helpful hints and our renovation-specific Code of Conduct to help consumers renovate with confidence.

Other show highlights include your favourite HGTV hosts and some of Canada’s well-known designers on the main stage.

There’s an exhibit called Upcycle Challenge: Unhinged featuring beautifully restored doors. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of both the Fall Home Show and Habitat for Humanity Toronto, 25 doors will be on display. Each one has been decorated or repurposed by celebrity designers, DIY bloggers — there’s even one from BILD — and they will be auctioned off for charity at the show.
