Elder Bush may return home from hospital soon
Former U.S. president, 90, experienced shortness of breath
HOUSTON— Former U.S. president George H.W. Bush remained in a Houston hospital through the weekend after experiencing shortness of breath earlier this week.
But a family spokesman said the 90-year-old might head home soon.
“President Bush’s condition has improved to the point that doctors have begun discussing dates for his discharge,” Jim McGrath said in a statement. “He will remain at the Houston Methodist Hospital through the weekend for further observation.”
Bush, the oldest living former U.S. president, was taken by ambulance to the hospital Tuesday for what was reported as a precaution.
Two years ago he spent nearly two months, including Christmas, at the same hospital for treatment of a bronchitis-related cough and other issues. He suffers from a form of Parkinson’s disease that has forced him to rely on a motorized scooter or wheelchair, although in June he celebrated his 90th birthday with a skydive.
