BECOME A LEADER IN THE FIELD OF SOCIAL MEDIA
At George Brown College
If social media is part of your job, check out the social media marketing certificate/courses at the school of continuing education at George Brown College. Current research, best practices and hands-on coursework provide students with all the tools and knowledge they need to be a leader in this important field.
“The certificate program gives students a broad understanding of social media marketing with elective options that allow them to go deeper into certain aspects,” says Blair Smith, a Toronto digital marketing expert and one of the social media instructors at the college. “We get into specific social media tools and channels and how to apply them.”
Social media marketing, community management, Facebook marketing, and social media metrics and email campaigns are compulsory courses. Electives includes Twitter marketing, blogging for your organization, search engine optimization, paid search and web analytics.
Most students are either working in the field or looking to change their career, Smith says. The city core location of George Brown attracts a very diverse group.
“There’s a downtown vibe and that makes for a great learning environment.”
Classes at the college are held in a lab with the latest Mac computers, and students are welcome to bring their own laptops, tablets and smartphones.
“We use one of the social networks as a community for the class, and students are actively encouraged to use it.”
All of the compulsory courses are available online, as well.
The beauty of social media is that everyone has a voice, and it is accessible to everyone, Smith says.
George Brown social media courses are hands-on and practical, whether you are a blogger and want to start your own channel about baking or fashion, or a small business owner and want to use social media to help drive sales and engagement.
