Emery Village has its own appeal

-

Geographically, the Emery Village BIA is said to be the largest one in North America, but it’s far from the prettiest. There are no cobblestone walkways or blocks of fine dining destinations. But the area has its own charms: access to multiple highways, diverse food spots, religious and cultural importance, employment and tons of possibility.

The mixed-use Casa development going up on the southeast corner of Finch Ave. and Weston Rd. is expected to upgrade the congested intersection and give the neighbourhood a focal point.

Located behind the Basilian Fathers monastery at 3100 Weston Rd., the Marian Shrine of Gratitude is a year-round destination for students, pilgrims and tourists.

The BIA commissioned a mural that hangs at the site of the original firehall at 2350 Finch Ave. W. to depict the history of fire services in the Emery Village Community.

The Long Hui Supermarket at 2437 Finch Ave. W. is a rare grocer in the diverse district that has dozens of Caribbean, Asian, Latin and South Asian eateries sprinkled in strip malls.

The BIA negotiated with developer Lindvest and helped design the $2.3million Joseph Bannon Park, which is the centrepiece of Lindvest’s Westown housing scheme just east of Weston and Mainship Rds. Ashante Infantry
